Another month has passed, and I find my thoughts on progress becoming overwhelming. Am I making the correct moves to reach my goal? My time is required in several areas, and deadlines are closing in. If you are feeling like this, there is a remedy for you. Stop and breathe. It's time to regroup on your priorities, goals, and completion methods. The first question to ask yourself is, how did I get here? Please know that poor planning will often sneak up on you, resulting in deadlines closing in. Also, did you add something to your plate without considering how you would finish it? This happens because I did not thoroughly analyze the cost of adding what I thought was a small task. Or I did not permit myself to say no because I thought I would lose out on a good opportunity. Let's be clear. Opportunities will always come your way; it does not mean you have to grab them all. This can be difficult to do when building your "Next."
Another thought to consider is whether the behavior is becoming a pattern. How many times have you found yourself in this space? What are you doing? The answer is that you are overloading your capacity for success. Every task only gets a portion of your attention instead of all of your attention. Doing this causes fatigue, missed deadlines, frustration, and forgetfulness, and you begin questioning yourself. You are not your best self. You are not showing up authentically. Which is what we strive for. The answer to overcome this is to take a step back. And actually, reexamine what you are doing the old-fashioned way. Pen and paper; Start a to-do list.
Sit down and write out what your goal is. List all the tasks that you are doing. Ask how they fit into my plan of action to move forward. I envision this to look like a chart; all areas point to the goal. If your efforts are not pointing toward your "Plan of Action" or your destination, some adjustments must be made before you press on. Remember, staying focused is vital to accomplishing any goal or task you have. This is not the time to beat yourself up or quit. This is just an adjustment phase, so correct yourself and keep it moving.
