As an educational advocate, veteran educator and literacy specialist, Shira has worked with over 500 families in the Chicagoland area helping strengthen or gain IEP/504 educational plans.
Shira has extensive knowledge of school teams and student supports and understands how to build partnerships for successful outcomes even in tense and difficult interpersonal situations.
Shira’s clients include families with students who may have learning difficulty, behavior regulation issues, anxiety, autism, ADHD, executive function, or school refusal.
Shira served on the writing team that drafted the Illinois State Literacy Plan for the State Board of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education Dyslexia Educator and Parent Handbook. Shira is also the current Vice President of Everyone Reading Illinois (the Illinois Dyslexia Association) and chairs the Legislative Committee which works on literacy policy and legislation at the state level.
